Élide Valarini Oliver is a professor of Brazilian Literature and Comparative Literature. She is the director of the Center for Portuguese Studies and the Editor of Santa Barbara Portuguese Studies. She is the recipient of the Jabuti prize for her annotated translation of François Rabelais's works into Portuguese. She is a Machado de Assis's scholar, with a book and articles internationally published and a researcher of Brazilian Modernismo, also with a book (in print) and articles internationally published. She is the convener of the Consortium for Modernismo Studies, an interdisciplinary group of international scholars dedicated to Brazilian Modernismo. She also specializes in literary translations.
